Students at MIT jokingly refer to Harvard as “Crimson Community College”. Following the motto “Mind and Hands,” the level of intelligence coupled with creativity on this campus is truly astounding. From the Media Lab (inventors of Guitar Hero, Google Street View, and the Biomechatronic prosthetic leg), to the Stata Center (where MIT’s Artificial Intelligence programs are housed), science fiction seems to come to life before our very eyes.

With a healthy sense of humor, MIT students are also notorious for pranks known as ‘hacks’ on campus. See where a police car mysteriously appeared on the 6th story roof, the building where a giant game of Tetris was played out, or explore the steam tunnels in the basement, passing by the Blacksmithing or Glassblowing shops. No tour of MIT is complete without a view of the Great Dome, and if it’s the right season, we’d be happy to show you the phenomenon known as MITHenge.

  • Private tours begin at $270, which covers up to 10 guests for up to two hours. 
​
  • For tours longer than two hours, groups under 10 guests are $135 per hour per guide.
​
  • For customized tours in groups larger than 10, please contact us for pricing.

  • Need a place to host a corporate meeting? MIT’s Media Lab, Tang Center, Samburg Conference Center, and a variety of other locations are an easy way to stay connected to MIT before, during, and after the tour. Contact us for more.​

  • The MIT Museum has an excellent collection of Holograms, moving sculptures, robotic arms, and other cool gadgets that make the modest price of admission well worth visiting. Please let us know if you’d like to add this into the tour path, though we often recommend visiting the museum after the tour, rather than in the middle of it.
 
  • Additional Sites of Interest may include: Sloan School of Management, Harvard Bridge (famous for the Smoots), Stratton Student Center, Kresge Auditorium, Koch Center for Integrative Cancer Research, Doc Edgerton Gallery, and the Francis Amasa Walker Memorial/Ballroom.

We Can't...

  • We cannot go inside MIT classrooms or dormitories, as they are functional classrooms and dormitories!

  • Unfortunately, we cannot include any “insider” tours of the tech and biotech labs at MIT. We cannot enter any MIT laboratories or research facilities. They are closed spaces, often sterilized, and cannot be entered by the public.

  • This tour is a walking tour, and not recommended as a path for a Step-On Tour.​

  • We do not arrange lectures from MIT professors or graduate students. Feel free to reach out to the MIT department of your choice to try and arrange something like this.

  • Larger groups may not enter any MIT buildings at all, as it is a functional school, and they do not want to clog the halls with tourist traffic. Thank you for your understanding.
